John Chabot, an Anishinabeg Algonquin from Kitigan-Zibi First Nation, is a former NHL hockey player (Montreal/Pittsburgh/Detroit) and coach ( NYI) with 22 years of professional experience. After he retired, he refocused his energy and started travelling to indigenous communities across the country working with their youth. Since 2001 he has travelled from coast to coast teaching hockey skills which led to the creation of First Assist Charity in 2021. He has also helped organize the NHL Indigenous Alumni team that plays games across the country and has taken part in three TV shows, produced by Nish Media, highlighting Indigenous youth, sport and culture.
